Born from the inkshedding movement, Conversations about Writing, a composition reader, explores through a variety of genres how one is taught to write and how writers develop ideas of correct writing. Readings range from research on the writing process to debates about academic vs. personal writing to reflections from poets and scientists on how and why they write. This text provides an overview of the composition field, and introduces readers to an intellectual life as a set of ongoing conversations within particular communities of inquiry. Inkshedding is a democratic process. It helps everyone have a say and helps us explore our thinking and our feeling on paper in relative safety before we face revision and editing and exposing our reasoning to the wider world.
